</div><div><br></div><div>Review:SAW X</div><div>By William Pattison</div><div>For Horror Bob's Blog</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><div>Last night I watched the new installment in the SAW series, SAW X.</div><div>John Kramer is back and in good form in this prequel that takes place between SAW and SAW 2. In this story John goes to Mexico for an unauthorized surgery and drug treatment that he found out about from a supposed cancer survivor. Unfortunately for John it turns out to be a scam being done by a bigger monster than John himself. So in picture perfect Jigsaw style John decided that these con artists need to be taught a lesson and prove themselves as worth of life. The main lesson of this film is don't fuck with John Kramer or suffer the repercussions.</div><div>I really loved this film and loved seeing John and Amanda back in action. </div><div>The games in the story were definitely appropriate. The only issue for me was two of the games dealt with weighing body matter. I think should have made each game totally different. But that can be easily fluffed off because both games were great.</div><div>Also, I think they could have done some de-aging on Amanda because she was showing her age. As for John I thought even though Tobin Bell was showing his age too it worked with the fact that the character was suffering from terminal cancer, this many people in that condition look prematurely aged.</div><div>Also, and I love this, I think that putting this story on its own yet actually between two of the installments was a brilliant and gutsy idea. The filmmaker managed to have freedom to do the story he wanted without messing with the continuity.</div><div>In conclusion I have to say SAW X is a gory, fun, installment of this beloved series that fans of the series should treasure.</div></div><div>Keep on Creepin'!</div><div>Horror Bob's Blog</div>Horror Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00307091143575014489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-882707391420840569.post-168355698334126442023-08-10T16:04:00.001-07:002023-08-10T16:04:45.519-07:00Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 2 Review<div><br></div><div>Star Trek Strange New Worlds Season 2 Review</div><div>By William Pattison</div><div>For Horror Bob'Blog</div><div><br></div><div>Well, I finished watching season 2 of Star Trek Strange New Worlds and I have a few thoughts on it. First, I believe that this season was far weaker than season 1. I felt that there were far too many oddball episodes this season. Three in one season is far too many when you only have ten episodes. Also jumping the shark with the musical themed episode was far misplaced.this episode would have been better place in the 6th season. The first three seasons are for establishing the characters and the tone of the show, not going off the wall. </div><div>Also, I believe that they have mishandled Ethan Peck’s Spock and his relationship with Nurse Chapel. Spock has been way over emotional. His cheating with Chapel when he is engaged to TPring is way out of line with his character. Also, the way Chapel treated Spock in episodes 8 and 9 were very much against her character. The writers need to stop screwing with fan favorite characters. I know they can do thatby the way they have handled Kirk, I have no complaints about him.</div><div>Finally, there is the literal elephant in the room, The Gorn. The Gorn presented in the opening episode as the big bad this season, but except for a few mentions they were absent until the season finale. We got far more Klingons than Gorn this season. I’m not saying I’m not happy to see real Klingons again, but they weren’t supposed to be the main villains. This shows a definite problem with the writing staff and the show.</div><div>All in all this season has been a mixed bag. This show is definitely better than Discovery but it still needs to gel and become the great show it can be. I await the next season and we’ll see what happens.</div><div>Keep on Creepin', Horror Bob's Blog</div>Horror Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00307091143575014489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-882707391420840569.post-1935012035387425982023-06-11T13:18:00.000-07:002023-06-11T13:18:31.241-07:00Review: Nefarious <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This story is about a psychologist who goes to a prison to evaluate a prison who is about to be executed with old sparkie. This multi-murderer claims to be possessed by a demon who calls himself Nefarious. The psychologist has to prove that the man is not crazy and can be executed according to the law.</div><div>The majority of this film is just the two men talking yet I was never bored. There is only a few minor FX scene which mostly involved the brutal, yet brief execution scene.</div><div>This film shows itself to being worlds better than the FX laden possession films we get on a regular basis. Just this demon sitting and calmly telling this psychiatrist how he took over and destroyed this man's life and how Hell is manipulating the human world to destroy people and send the majority to Hell is far more disturbing than Regan's green puke or Emily Rose twisting herself backwards. This is the one possession film I give high respect to but this film is truly a frightening affair...</div></div><div>keep on Creeping, Horror Bob's Blog</div>Horror Bobhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00307091143575014489noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-882707391420840569.post-56224395107238588872023-05-18T13:18:00.002-07:002023-05-18T13:18:21.033-07:00Review: Slasher:Ripper<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg1GakwYGZ_9dOcQbbQl5eDErXzGCO3D2fpzv06OQExWRRr7CTphaL47CTlTymwFlaSydm60wx4k87JPIa4aQ2KSij_sS4cqW6icc9p8YpXzwQBWTMBvuKndP781sVcBvk5QQw9_BtDRIvIEr9Q7724MeoKFK0kl34UK_Ehs-MvYLO523YnPLxNE7-/s960/FB_IMG_1684391418511.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="642" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg1GakwYGZ_9dOcQbbQl5eDErXzGCO3D2fpzv06OQExWRRr7CTphaL47CTlTymwFlaSydm60wx4k87JPIa4aQ2KSij_sS4cqW6icc9p8YpXzwQBWTMBvuKndP781sVcBvk5QQw9_BtDRIvIEr9Q7724MeoKFK0kl34UK_Ehs-MvYLO523YnPLxNE7-/s320/FB_IMG_1684391418511.jpg" width="214" /></a></div><p><br /></p><p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">By William Pattison</span></p><p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">For Horror Bob's Blog</span></p><p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Last night I finished watching SLASHER: Ripper. Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this season. The plot was interesting. The killings were interesting. But all the WOKE bullshit this season was annoying and took me out of the story. The black detective with the cornrows (give me a fucking break) and the black woman coroner distracted me. I kept saying to myself that this was bullshit. It went against the era the story was set at and did NOTHING to forward the narrative, thus shouldn't be there.</span></p><p></p><p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">I'm sorry but the social politics ruined what could have been a very interesting season. <p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="line-height: 107%;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: medium;">Gore and
Scares, this time I have a sci fi morality tale from Korea, Jung-E.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.35pt; line-height: 107%;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: medium;">Set in the
22nd century, climate change has caused the planet to become uninhabitable and
humans live within a man-made shelter. A war takes place within the shelter.
Jung Yi is the elite leader of the allied forces. She becomes the subject of a
brain cloning experiment. In the experiment the researchers, which includes
Jung Yi’s now adult daughter, install the cloned brains into robotic
recreations of Jung Yi, since her brain is now the property of the government.
They force her to relive her final mission in the hope of the prototype
replicant getting past the situation that caused Jung to fail, which caused the
war to last decades longer. It also means that her daughter must see her mother
die over and over again.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.35pt; line-height: 107%;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: medium;">I love a well
crafted sci fi film that deals with human morality in a sci fi setting and this
film is exactly that. In many ways this film is similar in tone to the live-action Ghost in the Shell film that came out a number of years ago, but it also
shares a lot in the feel and subject matter of the sequel to the original
anime, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, in that it is about copying human brains
but treating them as products with no respect or dignity.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.35pt; line-height: 107%;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: medium;">For those
looking for action and robot fight scenes, there are a few scenes of this but
it is not the focus of the film. It is about the relationship of Jung and her
daughter and the moral implications of their situation. This is a film that
deals with exposition and the CGI and action scenes may be few and far between
but when they appear they are impressive.<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="letter-spacing: 0.35pt; line-height: 107%;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: medium;">In conclusion
if you are looking for a robot war film that is nothing but fluff CGI battle
scenes this is not the film for you. But if you are looking for a story that
makes you think and has a moral and emotional impact, this is the film for you.
Enjoy…<o:p></o:p></span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">In 1985, Enid Baines works for the British Board of Film
Classification during the height of the Video Nasty controversy. Enid's
co-workers call her "Little Miss Perfect" due to her strictness in
recommending that violent content be cut or banned. While Enid is having dinner
with her parents, they discuss the disappearance of Enid's sister Nina when the
two were little. Enid's parents have since declared Nina legally dead, but Enid
is convinced that her sister is still missing and is the star of the film she
is currently censoring.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">This was a very interesting psychological film. this
film strongly echoes the works of Argento, Fulci, and Cronenberg with its
splendid use of color, style, and mood. Those films within the film pay homage
to the low-budget horror and exploitation films of the 1980s while its own
plot is missing chunks of flesh. It also gives away the ending rather early
with hints of a dark past concerning our protagonist but remains gripping.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">The Halloween night when Michael Myers returned isn't over
yet. Minutes after Laurie Strode (Curtis), her daughter Karen (Judy Greer), and
granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) left masked monster Michael Myers caged
and burning in Laurie's basement, Laurie is rushed to the hospital with
life-threatening injuries, believing she finally killed her lifelong tormentor.
But when Michael manages to free himself from Laurie's trap, his ritual
bloodbath resumes. As Laurie fights her pain and prepares to defend herself
against him, she inspires all of Haddonfield to rise up against their
unstoppable monster. The Strode women join a group of other survivors of
Michael's first rampage who decide to take matters into their own hands,
forming a vigilante mob that sets out to hunt Michael down, once and for all.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">This installment in the rebooted Halloween franchise was
quite effective. The entire audience was screaming and shouting and just, in general, having a spooktacular time. The storyline was modern but yet paid
homage to the original. The scares, the gore, the stupid decisions, it all came
together to make one killer movie.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">This movie was quite surprising to be fair, I was expecting
a typical horror with the basic format of a scare here and there with a cliche
ending, but no this creature feature is actually quite unique with very
interesting themes about trauma and abuse and has great parallels between the
two main characters. The effects were pretty good and the creature looked
really good when it was finally revealed. The acting was solid even the kid
actors weren't bad at all. The score was pretty cool and fit the creepy vibe of
the film. Not too long and not too short of a film, perfect length for these
sorts of films as they drag on if they're too long and feel bogged down with
exposition. Not much to say really about this one. Just a solid horror.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;"><span face="Helvetica, sans-serif" style="background: white; border: 1pt none windowtext; letter-spacing: 0.4pt; line-height: 107%; padding: 0in;">

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">I must say that I only saw the original Wrong Turn film so I
went into this with no real expectations about what should happen. It turns out
it was one of those few reboots that outdid the original horror film. There are
plenty of scary moments as well as quite a few unpleasant deaths. The
protagonists aren't particularly likable; they may be diverse and politically
liberal but they have their own prejudices. Without going into retails I
thought the way friends crossed paths with The Foundation; the various traps
were fun and the Foundation appeared scary. On the downside one really does
have to suspend one's disbelief; The Foundation might be a danger to hikers but
one can't imagine the authorities would be ignorant and tolerant of people
disappearing on a particular mountain for a hundred and seventy years! The
setting looks great even though it was filmed in Ohio rather than Virginia.
Overall I'd say this is worth watching but not a must-watch for horror fans;
just don't take it too seriously.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

Madison's troubled imagination? Either way, someone, or better yet, something,
links the past to the present, demanding closure and blood. Is the bogeyman

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">Horror movies are tough to make. Especially when you are
trying to please the general crowd and the hardened horror aficionados.
Especially the latter might depict your movie and quite a few things you chose.
Now James Wan seems to love a moving camera ... and I think that works nicely.
But he also seems to like action ... which is apparent towards the almost
insane action set-piece almost at the end of the movie. It is so over the top,
that one might feel it doesn't belong in there.<br />
<br />
It still sort of works if you suspend your disbelief. Other points you can criticize
are things that are being built up without a payoff. While it may not be too
bad when it comes to the (comedic) romance subplot, it is more than weird with
a location towards the end. It gets such an epic ... introduction and yet it
deflates into almost nothing.<br />
<br />
Maybe there is more (deleted scenes I'm quite sure), some scenes obviously have
been cut, one, in particular, comes to mind with more romantic stuff, that didn't
make it into the movie. Dialog wise that is, just in case you are wondering.<br />
<br />
But if you only see the negative, you will miss out on the fun and the horror
the movie dishes out. The story/plot does check out and while you'll be trying
to figure out what is what (and again hardcore horror fans will probably be
onto Wan early on), it does not take anything away from the journey.<br />
<br />
There are some horror clichés too (the very last frame may annoy you), but
overall the movie is a nice mixture between horror, comedy, and action. If you can
dig that, you are on a good way to really liking this.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">Based on the infamous demon murder case. A chilling story of
terror, murder, and unknown evil that shocked even experienced real-life
paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. One of the most sensational
cases from their files, it starts with a fight for the soul of a young boy,
then takes them beyond anything they'd ever seen before, to mark the first time
in U.S. history that a murder suspect would claim demonic possession as a
defense.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">Everyone who's complaining that they're too much story and
not enough scares, are you kidding? Story and character is the reason why we
care about the stakes that's where drama, tension, and horror comes from. If it
was all jump scares and lacking in the story (the movie Winchester comes to mind),
I guarantee y'all would've been even more disappointed. But if that's your
thing, you'll probably be just as entertained by a jack in the box. While
remaining faithful to the Conjuring universe, I appreciated that this third
movie explored new territory so it wasn't just a repeat. It is a quality
addition to the series with good production value and much more thoughtfully written than the spin-offs. It's a win for what it is considering
the impossible task the writer and the director had of pleasing all these harsh

zombies, after a disastrous government fault, billionaire casino magnate Bly
Tanaka realizes he has left something behind in Sin City: $200 million to be
more precise. But for the time being, his mountains of cash are safe behind an
impenetrable casino vault. Now, Tanaka is willing to pay $50 million to
decorated former mercenary Scott Ward and his hand-picked team to retrieve the
money before the US President nukes the entire city. Indeed, this is a
life-changing offer Scott cannot refuse; nevertheless, the rules have changed,
and this time, the horde of the walking undead seems to be more organized than

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">In acclaimed director, Edgar Wright's psychological thriller,
Eloise, an aspiring fashion designer, is mysteriously able to enter the 1960s
where she encounters a dazzling wannabe singer, Sandie. But the glamour is not
all it appears to be and the dreams of the past start to crack and splinter
into something far darker.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">Edgar Wright seems to polarize with this movie. Although
generally speaking the majority seem to love this as much as I did. Or in
similar fashion - no pun intended. And for a genre movie it starts off ... well
off (weird). You don't get a shocker, quite the opposite it starts off with a
music number/dancing. This makes sense when you think about it in hindsight
and still sets a tone for the viewer - even if not one that is as menacing as
the movie becomes later on.<br />
<br />
Technically speaking the movie is impeccable. Anyone arguing differently surely
has not seen far lesser movies produced than this and is probably blinded by
the fact they don't like the movie. This is more than fine, just don't let
your dislike turn into a general bashing. One does not have to like a movie
that is well made. We have different tastes and that is a good thing.<br />
<br />
There are things that depending on how you view things, may feel like flaws or
things the movie did not get right. Like the moral ambiguity or the love
interest. The latter may feel a bit one-dimensional, but ask yourself this: how
many female love interests have been played or rather written the exact same
way? So this is nothing unusual - unless you count the gender swap for who is
playing the gullible and way too nice person to be real ... having said that,
again that may not be enough to sway you to like the movie or the characters.<br />
<br />
And the moral issues the movie displays include an ending that some may not
be entirely left satisfied with (character choices and so much more) - with
many unanswered questions ... on the other hand, some things are better left
without an answer, so we as viewers can fill in the blanks.<br />
<br />
Stylish and probably with quite a few in-camera effects (I imagine certain
tricks were used to avoid a higher special effects cost, but I may be wrong),
this movie has a few exquisite jump scares and a really good story as a
backbone. Oh and before I forget, a great cast. It has been ages since I last
saw Terence Stamp on the big screen.<br />
<br />
Anyway, really good genre movie by a director who knows what he wants - for an
audience who mostly seems to appreciate it.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

town when his car breaks down. Unable to pay for the repairs he needs, he
agrees to spend the night cleaning Willy's Wonderland, an abandoned family fun
center. But this wonderland has a dark secret that the "The Janitor"
is about to discover. He soon finds himself trapped inside Willy's and locked
in an epic battle with the possessed animatronic mascots that roam the halls.
To survive, he must fight his way through each of them.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-size: large;">I like the general premise and the place. I love Cage's
obsessive cleaning although his character should start differently. Instead of
a bad mother driving a muscle car, he should be a simple workman driving a
beat-up truck. He should be poor which would explain him working as a janitor
more easily. I like the teen group for the most part and they are good cannon
fodder anyways. I like the animatronic killers although the killings get a bit
repetitive.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">By William Pattison<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">For Horror Bob’s Blog<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Gore and Scares and happy Halloween. I just finished
watching Halloween Kills, the sequel to the reboot/sequel to the original
Halloween that rejects all previous sequels and creates a new narrative for the
terror that is Michael Myers.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">This film starts off where the reboot sequel, which was
amusingly and simply titled Halloween ends. The injured Laurie Strode and her
family are in the back of a truck escaping. Laurie freaks out when she sees a
fire truck heading to her burning house where she had fought Michael Myers and
had thought she’s burned him up with her home. Unfortunately, this is Michael
Myers we are talking about and he inadvertently escapes the flames with the
help of The Haddenfield Fire Department. He also kills the firemen as a warm
thank you.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Of course, then he goes on a killing sprees on his way back
to his house, which is the love den for a gay couple. Meanwhile some of the survivors of Michael’s
1978 murder rampage come out of the shadows and go on a search for the guy in
the white face Kirk mask, including the two kids, now grown up, who Laurie had
been babysitting all those years ago as well as the nurse whom Michael stole
the care from who he escaped the mental home originally. Also add to our cast
of characters a deputy who accidentally shot his partner when trying to shoot
Michael. Stupid fool. Shit, doesn’t he know bullets don’t have any real affect
on Michael? Hell, by now you would think Michael would be clicking as he
marches around with all that metal in his carcass.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">All this leads to another killfest hosted by the grandmaster
of slaughter. Shit, we even get to see some mob mentality fun as all the people
in Haddenfield General Hospital go nuts and chase an innocent nut ball who got
away from a bus crash from the nut house and stumbles into the hospital at the
moment when the crowd is craving blood.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">So, on with the review…<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">I have to say that I royally enjoyed Halloween Kills. Unlike
a lot of reviewers, I liked the pace of the film and found the tension level
very satisfying. I realize a lot of millennials, who had been weaned on slasher
films during the years of hell that The Horror Social held horror in a
strangled hold and only allowed slasher films cast with The Breakfast Club
clones, weak or no storylines, and the ideology that good horror films only
needed killers in masks and gory kills to be good. Don’t get me wrong,
Halloween Kills has horribly brutal kills, but it also has full on character
arcs along with plot, story, and lots of Easter eggs. I love the homage to
Halloween III and of course the appearance of….Oh, spoilers. You’ll have to see
for yourself.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">All in all I found Halloween Kills an excellent middle film
in a trilogy. It is not perfect, but it is enjoyable and I figure any plot holes
in this film will be addressed in the final chapter, Halloween Ends, which
should come out in the next two years. But, as for this film I can highly
recommend this film for those looking for a little Michael fix…<o:p></o:p></span></p>

bills. The only problem, besides the city full of man-eating zombies was that
the government was going to blow the city up with a tactical nuclear missile in
three days.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> With the

snarky ace chopper pilot Marianne Peters take on this near-impossible heist.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> All I can
say is this film is mind-blowing, but what can you expect from the brilliant
director that brought us such mind-blowing films as Watchmen, Sin City, 300,
Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, Superman Versus Batman: Dawn of Justice, and of
course Justice League The Snyder Cut. I’ve seen so many incredible classic
zombie films over the years, like Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, and
Zombieland just to name a few and I see this film joining the list of classics.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> Snyder
is a master of shooting gory violence and turning it into art. The film is full
of incredible shots of zombies doing what zombies do and badass characters doing
what they do. On top of that this film has a music track that will be a
pleasure to get a copy of when or if it comes out. This film was a joy for me
to watch, much like the Korean zombie film Peninsula was.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> I know a
lot of people on social media have been whining about how long this film was,
it was two and a half hours long. For me, that is a treat because it means the
filmmaker is giving your money’s worth. Shit people, he gives us five different
types of zombies including the intelligent overlord zombies. He also gives us a
zombie tiger named Valentine and a zombie horse. Frankly, stop bitching
bitches! You should be thanking Zack Snyder and praising him. If you haven’t
seen this film yet I only got this to say… Either got to NetFlix or go to your
local theatre and SEE THE FUCKING FILM. It is awesome! I can not recommend it
more…<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal">

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><o:p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Ok, people, this time I’m going to be reviewing the
“reimagining” of the Stuart Gordon classic horror film, Castle Freak by
filmmaker Tate Steinsiek and screenwriter Kathy Charles through Fangoria
Films. You’ll see the significance of this later in the review…<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> This reimagined version of Castle Freak tells the story of
Rebecca Whateley and her dysfunctional boyfriend John. At the beginning of the
film, we see how John because he is a nasty male cause an accident that takes
Rebecca’s vision. Then the story jumps to a time later and we see Rebecca and
John in a car driving in the Albanian countryside. It seems that Rebecca’s
absentee mother has died and left Rebecca a castle. Of course, she also left her
a little bonus that is creeping around in the walls, the Castle Freak. Now,
Rebecca, John, and a bunch of her friends that we meet at the beginning of the
film must solve Rebecca’s family mystery before her hidden guest rips its way
through her friends to get to her.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> Now, people, I have to say I have a love/hate relationship
with remakes / “reimaginings”. Some have surprised me, some have made me want
to punch the wall and scream with rage. Guess which this is? <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> Seriously, other than for a chance for Charles Band to sell
off the right to his fan favorites to get financing to make a few more Full
Moon films, much like Lloyd Kauffman did with Toxic Avenger, there is no reason
to remake Castle Freak. Stuart Gordon’s original still stands the test of time
and is still one of the three films he has done I consider a classic.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> But, of course, in this world of SJWs and toxic feminism, no
classic is safe, especially if it has anything to do with H.P. Lovecraft. If
you don’t know, reader, the original Castle Freak was inspired by the H.P.
Lovecraft short story The Outsider (not to be mistaken for the Stephen King
novel of the same name.) Though in fact Stuart Gordon didn’t really add any
Lovecraftian references in his film. Unfortunately, in this “reimagined”
version Kathy Charles has jammed this film with references to Lovecraft that
the main storyline is drowned and neutered. This film is so badly written that
suddenly cultists who worship The Elder Gods show up out of the ether. And of
course, they had to change the sex of the Castle Freak and change it’s back
story completely because a tortured Frankenstein-like character that the
audience can pity is just stupid. Right Kathy Charles? Nope, let it be the
vanguard of the coming of The Ancient Ones. Shit, why not even bring in a cameo
of Herbert West (spoiler) to make this turd complete. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> Honestly, people, Stuart Gordon is rolling in his grave and
it is thanks to that hive of SJW and feminist bias Fangoria. These assholes
greenlit this crapfest. I could see Rebekah McKendry pushing the heads of
Fangoria to back this. It has the McKendry shit stain on it. I still can’t
believe they rehired her after she and Christopher Alexander killed Fangoria
before. Are these idiots or not!<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> Anyway, in conclusion, don’t waste your time with this
filth. Grab your copy of Castle Freak or find it streaming and watch the Stuart
Gordon masterpiece, the one, and only Castle Freak.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><o:p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Detective K is back, not to be mistaken for the big budgeted
blockbuster Korean detective Detective D. Detective K is a far lower budget
version of D and a lot more comical. Along with his loyal associate, Seo pil, K
goes on adventures and solves mysteries in ancient Korea. In this installment
in the series K must solve a mystery involving vampires. People are dying. They
are being turned into vampires and immediately destroyed. While investigating K
and his associate meet a mysterious woman who can’t remember her past and is
more than she seems. Soon K finds himself in the middle of a situation dealing
with treason against the crown and revenge from beyond the grave.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">I have to say I loved this film. Yes, it’s not a huge budget
spectacular like the films of my favorite Korean detective Detective D. But
this film had a really well done storyline and interesting characters. It also
had a lot of slapstick comedy which made up for the epic feel of the Detective
D films. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Actor Myung-Min Kim is excellent as K. I can present himself
as intelligent in one scene then go completely tongue in cheek in another
without batting an eye. Also, Dal-su Oh, who everyone remembers from the film
Old Boy is comedic genius as K’s loyal associate Seo pil. And, of course, Ji-Won
Kim is wonderful as the mystery lady.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">One thing I really enjoyed was that this film didn’t over do
the vampires. The vampires rarely show their teeth and there is next to no neck
biting. There is a lot of vampire destruction and that is handled very well.
The FX in this film look top notch but don’t take over the show. The fighting
is done very well, so for those looking for that will not be disappointed.
Unfortunately, this film does not come in an American dub so you will have to
deal with subtitles.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">All in all, I have to say that this film was really
enjoyable. If you are looking for scare you will be disappointed, but for
action, comedy, and just plain thrills this film delivers. I can highly
recommend Detective K: The Sectert of the Living Dead. Enjoy….<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Reviewed by William Pattison<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><o:p><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;"> </span></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Ok. So, this review is actually meaningless as a review for
the simple fact that I’m the publisher of said book and thus cannot actually
review it. But the author, Christopher Highland, who is also my apprentice,
insisted I review it and threatened to hold his breath until I agreed…and I
don’t want to see a red-faced Harry Potter look-a-like pass out. That is the
thing of nightmares. Thus, onward I go…I’ve only done one other book review,
The Scarlet Gospels, so hopefully this turns out ok. Damnit, Christopher, I’m a
movie reviewer, not a literary expert!!! Wish me luck...<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">The Witch and the Prince tells the story of Michael. Michael
is one of those young people who is horribly ignored by those around him. Don’t
get me wrong he does have friends, but they are more just people he hangs with
who constantly forget to make him aware when they are heading out of the school
during lunch hour. At home Michael has to pretty much take care of himself,
which usually means making a meal out of the scraps in the refrigerator. His
parents are almost never home and when they are there they are always fighting.
As for his sister, she is usually gone as well and when she is at home she is in
her own shallow world…<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">But then something happens to change Michael’s world, he
knocks a baseball through the window of the one house people avoid in his
neighborhood. It is an old supposedly deserted house. Yet, Michael fights off
his fear and goes in to get his baseball. Once inside he finds that it is far
from empty as he had assumed. Down the main staircase strides an old and regal
woman who introduces herself as Rose. Rose decides that Michael must do a bunch
of chores for her in trade for the broken window. After that, she will return
his ball to him. Michael agrees, but he doesn’t realize all that he’s about to
experience because Rose is in fact an ancient witch from the Fay realm and she
has much more in store for Michael than mere helping her to cook and
clean…Nope, Michael is about to take a journey between realms that will change
the path of his life.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">Ok, so there is a short synopsis with as few spoilers as I
can give. Now onto the review…<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">This is definitely a Cinderella story right down to the
Ball, but in this case, it is the Prom. Michael’s story and his world is the
center of this story. In fact, there are only a few scenes that actually take
place in the Fay realm, so don’t expect this to be a Narnia, NeverEnding Story,
or even Pan’s Labyrinth, though that story is very main character-centered. If
I was to compare this story to another I would say more Radio Flyer or more so
would be Isabelle Holland’s The Man Without a Face. Why I say more The Man
Without a Face is because in that book the disfigured ex-teacher becomes the
main character’s mentor and changes the kid’s life, like what happens with
Michael and Rose. With Radio Flyer there are a lot of fantasy elements but the
main story is told with brutal honesty, which is something I do see in Mr.
Highland’s story. Still, the fantasy aspects are there but Mr. Highland uses them
as a counterpoint to events that happen in Michael’s world. For instance, there
is a scene where Michael goes to Thanksgiving dinner at his grandparent’s
house. Mr. Highland shows how this family event comes off forced and full of
false fellowship. Whereas, he counters this with Michael going to a celebration
dinner with Rose in a cabin in the Fay realm with elves, goblins, fairies, and
a giant. In this scene, the fellowship is honest and real and Michael is treated
with much more regard and respect. Rose even asks him to make a toast,
something that would never happen with his family.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">This book definitely feels like a book from another age, a
simpler more human age. This is mostly due to the fact that Christopher
Highland is in love with the English language. This book is full of flowing
visuals and poetic flare that you don’t see in this time of rapid pacing,
melodrama, and music video clip visuals. This book was written by a person who
cultured himself in classic literature rather than modern media with its TV and
video style of storytelling. Also, Mr. Highland decided to write this story in
present tense rather than past tense. For myself, I am more used to present
tense being used for scripts, which I consider blueprints of films and plays
rather than books. It took me a few chapters to get past this but I figured I
should mention this for those who might be tense sensitive.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: times; font-size: large;">So, in the end, if you are a person who loves books with a
literary flair, strong characterization, that uses both fantasy and the real
world elements to deal with real-life issues. If this sounds good to you then
The Witch and the Prince is the book for you…<o:p></o:p></span></p>

separate pieces manipulate events around the city and push things into
conflict and death, while its opposite looks on and refuses to take action to
stop it.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 16pt; line-height: 107%;"><span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"> I thought this
series was ok, only ok. They kind of went the way of the film China Town this
time but missing the aspects that made that film so stunning. I would have
enjoyed it more if they had handled the show like the first Penny Dreadful. You
know, maybe have Sam Spade as a detective in it and a secret organization that
is trying to stop the supernatural evil that is manipulating events. The series
does have secret organizations in it but these are Jewish people trying to stop
the secret Nazi organization that is trying to take over the government of LA. Still,
It has been an interesting story about 1930s Los Angeles and the political and
racial tensions of those times reflecting on current issues we are dealing with
today. But, that is its biggest issue with me. I thought it was way too on the
nose. People want their horror series to be entertaining and a way to get away
from the real world. They don't want a dab of supernatural with a face load of
politics and WOKE overtones.<br />
I'll wait and see what season 2 brings. It had better not be more of the same.
If they up the horror elements more I'll be happy. If not I'll have to consider
if this series is worth my time. It really hasn't grabbed me like the earlier
one did. I, and I expect most of the audience, wanted a pulp fiction story with
a lot of horror in it. John Logan is a great writer but he needs to know his
audience better. I still will recommend this series with the caveat that this
is no Penny Dreadful.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I have said that I
don’t buy what was explained in Poltergeist, but there are reasons for
that. There </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">are puzzle pieces that are either not seen, or intentionally
left out. Whether these pieces I will
bring up </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">have been noticed by those involved in the films, or anyone
else, I know not. But, these are films
that </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">do what a select few of horror films of the 1980s, or any
other time, manage to do. They scare. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They cut across
all manners of taste, perceptions, thresholds, and do more than what most
horror </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">films do, which is merely entertain. Not only do they scare, but they cut across
various contexts as to </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">why they scare. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These films have
depths that most horror films do not.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>They
are horror films with clues and </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">subtleties that give them layers and angles that most would
not imagine, no matter how much one </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">would go over them with a fine-toothed comb. A distinction among mediocrity, those who
worked on </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">such a film should be honored if a horror film falls into
this category, whether such depth is known to </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the crew or not.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I have mentioned
that there are specific reasons why these two films scare, terrify, or at the
very least, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">fill one with trepidation. I will explain not only that, but how and why events in these films
happen the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">way they do, and also the way they could. I will also explain the real motive for the
villain, which is </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">hinted at, but never rightfully explained.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>These are films I
have put out of my mind for decades due to the level of fear they brought
me.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>After </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">experience has let me see them with new eyes, tumblers and
gears within my mind suddenly clicked </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">into place, and I noticed what others are not aware of. There is much buried treasure to be had, if
one </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">knows where, and how, to look.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">After all, these films have many hearts.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>One aspect of these
films I will discuss throughout will be metaphysics, which is a paramount
factor in </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">key plot points, and why they happen the way they do. It even ties in to the villain’s motive. Now, in </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">order for all this to be understood, it’s important to
re-examine certain scenes. Firstly, the
construction </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">of the pool wakes up the spirits buried underneath, causing
problems with tv’s within the house and </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">neighbors. This also
allows for the spirits to enact their playful nature by moving members of the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">family along the floor, and moving the chairs. Keep in mind at this point that they are not
under any </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">influence or control of “The Beast”, for he had not woken up
yet.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When the villain
does wake up, he takes control by splitting his power three-ways.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>First, with the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">animation and manipulation of the tree; attempted eating or
swallowing alive of Robbie by the tree, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">second with the kidnapping of Carol Anne, and third, with
the tornado. All this caused the beast
to </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">expend a great amount of energy, leaving him exhausted and
the other spirits in control for the most </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">part, yet now under his influence. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The villain is now
forced to appear to Carol Anne as a child, at least for the time being, keeping
her with </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">him until his strength can fully return.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Remember it was the
wish of the spirits to cross over, which was explained.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It was not explained what </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the ultimate goal of “The Beast”, although it was alluded to
and left up to the imagination. Given
how </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">much energy he uses within the course of the film is quite
telling.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The spirits moving
objects around in the bedroom while under the influence of the villain does
cost </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">him some energy, but not too much. It’s the same as putting a car in cruise
control, or resting one’s foot </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">on the gas pedal.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When the spirits
are seen walking down the stairs, this also costs him energy.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Given there is no </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">malevolence of any kind on the part of the spirits or “The
Beast”, it is at the time where he is at his </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">weakest, allowing himself to be seen on film.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also, when Marty
hallucinates in the bathroom, this takes some energy to occur, although the
villain </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">does not have that much at this point. He has just enough to
pull this off. This scene would have gone </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">differently if he had more energy. Furthermore, it is the general consensus that
“The Beast” bit Marty </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">in the film, and not one of the other spirits. This gives further depth to the bathroom
scene. There is </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">enough energy to spare for Marty to be lifted up into the
air, which is detailed in a deleted scene, and </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">bit, but not enough to take over his body and make him tear
into himself for real; not enough for the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">complexity needed to take over his mind fully: just enough
to hallucinate it.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Now, when Tangina
comes into the picture, this causes a shift in “The Beast”’s power.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Her presence </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">causes it to be swept aside and held at bay, scaled
down. This allows her to go into Carol Anne's bedroom</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> with no danger abounding. Seeing the situation for what it is, and what
is needed, the rescue </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">is able to occur, although “The Beast” is able to slip his
bonds and frighten the father, causing him to let </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">go of the rope.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When the spirits
leave the house and pass into the dimensional vortex, leaving the control of
“The </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Beast”, his power bounces back from being restrained, being
able to fool Tangina. Over the course of
a </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">day, his power has
built up to a point where he can easily attempt a second kidnapping involving
Carol </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Anne and Robbie, along with warping reality in the hallway
by making it appear longer, appearing in </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">front of the bedroom door as a demonic sentinel, and making
coffins and bodies rise up from the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">ground.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When the house is
finally sucked into the dimensional vortex at the end of the finale of the
film, it is </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">quite telling. It is telling that even within the finale
there is a build-up to his power. He
could not have </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">sucked in the house when he wanted to; say, at the start of
the finale when the mother is lifted onto the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">ceiling. It built up
during the hallway, when it is perceived to be longer. It built up further for
the second </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">attempted kidnapping, and “The Beast” appearing as a
sentinel in front of the bedroom door.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It built up further
when the corpses and coffins rose from the ground.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It came to a crescendo with the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">house being sucked into the dimensional vortex. If he had the amount of power he wanted, when
he </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">wanted it, he could have easily kidnapped Robbie and Carol
Anne, and most likely the mother. He could </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">have waited for the father and Dana to come back, and had
them sucked into the vortex, along with the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">house.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Now, what I have
said so far may be thought of as enough to clash with what was explained in the
film. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">But, not quite. It
was never explained that the excavation of the pool was what woke up the
spirits in </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the first place. It
was never explained to the paranormal investigators, or Tangina, that this was
the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">case, nor were they aware that the family’s house was brand
new. It was also never explained to them </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">that the spirits’ bodies were still buried on the house’s
property.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The only one who would
know or suspect would be Tangina, but as much as says in the film, there’s </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">also much in what she does not say.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The amount of
energy “The Beast” generates throughout the film is also telling. Within the context of </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the film, and although it is the wish of the spirits, and
not the villain, to cross over, this alone suggests </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">his motive , his ultimate objective, is on a grand
scale. For no one deals with energy on
that grand a </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">scale unless their goal is on an equally grand scale, or
much grander scale, which the use of energy in the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">film is highly suggestive of.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>***<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>There is a theme
that runs concurrent throughout the film. It is much more evident in the second
film </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">than the first film. All the ways this theme manifests itself is not always obvious to the
audience, and </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">may not be obvious to the films’ crew, but as I have said
before, it does exist therein. It is a
theme that </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">cuts across, and cuts to the quick. It works consciously,
and subliminally.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Timeless, effective,
it can be </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">used in all sorts of ways.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">It is the theme of being buried alive.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>First, it has come
to my attention that there are faces which can be seen within the tree when
Robbie </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">is climbing it if one looks closely.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Faces of spirits buried within said tree, one
might say.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Speaking of the
tree, it comes alive and either tries to eat, or swallow Robbie into its
trunk.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This is not </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">very far away at all when it comes to being buried
alive. Rather, almost the same
thing. Also, the tree’s </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">limbs grab hold of Robbie and try to drag him into the
ground. Of course, the other evidence
of the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">theme within the film may not be quite as obvious.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Another part of the
film that falls into this theme is the bathroom scene, where Marty
hallucinates. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Originally, I didn’t think it had anything to with the
theme, but after thinking about it from every which </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">way that I can, I have found that it does. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The skeletal
features of the face when delved into, combined with the clawing action of the
hands, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">hints of the spirits’ bodies trying to claw their way out of
their graves. It also strongly hints
that there is </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">something buried within the property. This scene also foreshadows the finale with
the coffins and </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">bodies rising up from the ground. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Naturally, of
course, the pool scene, along with the coffin rising from the ground, is the
most obvious </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">evidence for the theme existing within the film. Even though “The Beast” at this point is
causing the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">coffins and bodies to rise, and though the construction of
the pool woke them up in the first place, their </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">rising up is highly suggestive of some life stirring within
their bones.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Also, the difficulty the mother has in trying to escape the makeshift pool is highly
suggestive of being </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">buried alive as she fights her way past the bodies and claws
her way out as her hands keep slipping in </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the mud.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>***<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Poltergeist II, on
the other hand, is a whole other beast altogether.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Some have said that it copies </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">many things from the original film, and in some ways it
does, but as a sequel, what it does achieve well </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">is that it is scarier than the first film. Of course, there are not merely aesthetic
reasons for that, but also scientific.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> The time between the continuity of the two
films has nothing to do with this, however. At </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the end of the first film, the villain has grown in
power. He has managed to take hold of
his flock again </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">and absorb them into himself, making him even stronger.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>This has allowed
for him to follow his prey from California to Arizona.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>But, as much power as he has </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">now, it is not enough for him to walk in and take Carol Anne
when he wants to.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Her Grandmother’s </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">existence forms a psychic barrier of protection, but once
she dies, that barrier is gone, and the villain, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">now known as Rev. Henry Kane, manages to slip the power of
his flock into the house.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Coming in through
her toy phone, the spirits are now Kane’s right hand, infesting the house the
family </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">now lives in. Though,
he cannot come inside yet. It is at this
point when the family tries to leave, the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Indian, “Taylor”, shows up.
But, I’m getting ahead of myself. Before this happens, Kane shows up in </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">human form at the local outdoor mall, appearing only to the
family and no one else. Making sure only </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the family sees him shows his growth in power.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When the family
returns after trying to leave, the spirits are nowhere to be found, but that is
only a </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">short-lived respite. Kane show up again, at the family’s home, and does his best to convince
them to let </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">him inside. All the
while, the mother has visions of Kane, due to his close proximity. His powers have </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">grown which allow for him to nearly mesmerize the father to
let him in, but Carol Anne breaks Kane’s </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">concentration.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">For
all his power at this point, he is still at his weakest when he appears human.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Since he cannot
merely walk in and take Carol Anne, he does his best to wear the family
down<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span></span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">psychologically. The
mother has a dream that turns into a nightmare that shows her walking in the backyard</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> and corpses reach up from the ground and pull her
in with them. In a deleted scene, and </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">which is also featured in the novelization, Carol Anne has a
dream/nightmare where Kane appears to </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">her and reaches into his chest and pulls out his heart.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Rev. Henry Kane
transcending the dreamscape on two occasions to give two characters nightmares, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">and himself appearing in one of them, is further evidence of
his growth in power.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>He then further
attacks by influencing his flock to attack Robbie by making his braces come
alive in the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">bathroom and cocoon him on the ceiling, acting as a
diversion the same way the tree attacking in the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">first film was also a diversion. Taylor guarded Carol Anne this time,
preventing Kane from taking her, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">showing that he was for all his power, he was not
all-powerful.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I must address
another deleted scene that occurs when Tangina shows up again to help. This is when </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the father, and Taylor, go off in the Arizona desert, and
Taylor gives him the smoke spirit to help him.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Kane shows up in human form while they are gone and
confronts the mother and Tangina, whom he </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">recognizes. </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">This is
another instance showing his limitations when he appears human.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Kane finally
manages to gain access to the house in the cleverest way. Taking advantage of
Steven’s, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the father’s, drinking as he does one night outside, Kane
takes possession of the worm inside the tequila </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">bottle from which Steven drinks. After swallowing the worm, Kane proceeds to
possess Steven’s body </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">and thus enter the house.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Confronting the
mother, arguing, and attempting to rape her, she tells him desperately that she
loves </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">him. Unable to stand
a genuine, pure sign of love, Kane is disgusted. It breaks his concentration and </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">hold over Steven’s body and is forcibly expelled. It oozes under the bed, forming a demonic
amoeba, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">and quickly grows into a skeletal worm creature.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Being able to take
possession of living people, and non-living things such as the worm in the
tequila </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">bottle, not only shows Kane’s growth in power, but clever
resourcefulness, ingenuity, as well as </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">desperation.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>After gaining
access to the house, it attacks Steven, but now in the form of a Medusa-like
creature, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">grabbing him by the neck with claw-like appendages. It is here that the smoke spirit comes out
of </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Steven’s mouth and acts as the equivalent of mace sprayed in
the face to Kane. Another instance of </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Kane not being all-powerful.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The family escapes
the house and decides to fight Kane on his home turf, going back to where their
old </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">house disappeared from.
Going down into the caves underneath the property, and finding the
skeletons </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">of Kane’s flock, and of Kane himself, the mother and Carol
Anne are easily kidnapped by Kane and taken </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">to the other side; the dimension he currently inhabits.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>The ease and
swiftness in which he kidnaps them is further proof of his growth in
power. But, the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">ultimate proof is when the father and son go after
them.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">After appearing as the medusa-like
creature</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">again in the dimensional void, it is here that the faces of
the spirits of Kane’s flock can be seen in the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">creature’s abdomen. These spirits that have been absorbed by Kane are proof positive not
only of his </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">growth in power, but also his lust for ever-increasing
power.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is also proof as
to why Kane was after Carol Anne in the first place.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>His attempted
possession and absorption of Carol Anne into his abdomen is proof that with his
level of </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">power that that moment, if he achieved this act, his level
of power would have been tipped over the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">edge. It is an edge
from which his power would have soared to unimaginable levels. If he did achieve </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">this possession, he would have been able to transcend many
barriers that make up the physical world </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">and spiritual world, such as time, space, and many
dimensions.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>His lust for power
would have drawn him to seek out key figures in various points in time, unique </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">beings throughout the universe, and beings of matter or
anti-matter in dimensions. Seeking
beings of </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">high intelligence and psychic perception would cause his
power to grow exponentially. It would
also </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">cause him to remake whatever world, dimension, or time, in
his own image, for it would be irresistible </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">to him.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is the only
path he could have been on. The levels
and type of power he used, and the growth of </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">power caused by possessing his flock. From the first moment of the kidnapping in
the first film to the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">final attempted possession in the second film, it is this
grand jump in power in which he initially covets.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>***<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>I have mentioned
before the buried alive theme exists within the first film.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>It is more obvious in the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">second film, and in some instances, maybe even less obvious
for some. The skeletons found at the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">beginning and at the end of the film, in the cave, ties in
with the flashback vision the mother has of Kane </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">leading his flock into the underground cave, sealing it up,
and not letting them leave. Also the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">nightmare the mother has where she is pulled into the ground
by corpses.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>When Robbie is
attacked in the bathroom and his braces come alive and cocoon him on the
ceiling is </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">another example.The
Kane worm possession infecting Steven does not appear to fall into this theme, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">but looking at it from a rather roundabout manner, from how
Kane takes over Steven’s body and mind, </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">to how the worm exits his body, I believe it technically
counts.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Lastly, the medusa
form in which Kane appears in at the end of the film; The faces of the souls of
his </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">flock that appear in his abdomen; the souls that he has
buried within himself, and which he tries to do </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">the same to Carol Anne.</span></div>

<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>Before I conclude,
I want to bring you to attention of the influence of H.P. Lovecraft within the
two </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">films. I am not an expert of his work, nor do I prefer it
among others of the horror genre, but the general </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">otherworldliness, and the tentacles coming out of the vortex
towards the end of the first film, and the </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">physical nature of Rev. Henry Kane’s medusa form at the end
of the second film, would seem to be enough</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> to support this.</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"> </span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I’m sure a true expert on Lovecraft can point out all the ways he has influenced</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;"><span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>In the grand scheme

</span><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Sometimes there are puzzles within these films, waiting for the right

<br />
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I just finished watching the latest DC animated film, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War. I was thoroughly impressed by this feature. It was the animated approximation of both Infinity War and Endgame combined. I loved the fact that they had The Justice League, Justice League Dark, Teen Titans, Suicide Squad, and even Swamp Thing and The Demon in this film. And of course, the icing on the cake was once again Matt Ryan returned as John Constantine and played a major part in this story. If you are a DC fan you will love this. I highly recommend this film...</span></span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">This is William Pattison the real and only Eric Morse and author
of The Camp Crystal Lake Novels. I want to make it clear that for the past two
years Eric Hyde and a bunch of cyber-stalkers have been committing fraud. They
created a fictional author named Dan Foxx and have gone around changing Friday
the 13th wikis and websites stating that this fictional person is, in fact,
Eric Morse. Don’t be fooled by their bullshit. All it takes is checking out Dan
Foxx’s Facebook page to see that most of his pictures are doctored. The
cyber-stalkers have taken pictures of me and pasted the person they use for Dan
Foxx’s face over mine. They have also used a banner I had for Martinsville
Horrorfest and doctored it to use as a fake promotional banner for a fake book
signing that never happened. Also, they have used my birthday as Dan Foxx’s
birthday and used my sister and my niece’s names mockingly as Dan Foxx’s
daughters.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The most recent bunch of bullshit is the wiki site Fandom
blocked me from correcting the information on their public access synopsis on
my books. Eric Hyde and his buddies changed my name on the biography of the
writer to Dan Foxx and put that he had a wife named Kathleen and used my sister
and my niece’s names as his children. I corrected all this. Well, a couple of
days ago I went on there and found I was blocked and that someone changed the
biography to read that “there is a dispute in regard to who is author Eric
Morse. Dan Foxx and William Pattison both claim to be the author.” Excuse me?
Any idiot with a little research could find out that my name has been all over
the internet as being Eric Morse since the 90s, whereas Dan Foxx just suddenly
appeared out of nowhere two years ago claiming to write my books. I think the
logical assessment should be clear, but Fandom would rather support the lie.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">So, Eric Morse fans, support the real author of The Camp Crystal
Lake Novels and denounce this fictional creation of the cyber stalkers and Eric
Hyde.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

Michael is an eccentric young man living in the suburbs of Chicago. One day he hits a baseball through the window of an abandoned house that is known in the neighborhood to be haunted. Michael goes in to reclaim his ball and finds an old woman living there, an old woman who is about to change his life. For you see the old woman, whose name is Rose is actually an ancient witch. Soon a friendship begins, one that will transcend the boundaries of the human world and that of the fairy folk.<br />The Witch and the Prince is a story that, like its main characters, transcends genres and uses fantasy and drama to deal with not only the fantastic but also real human issues and themes. Christopher Highland has weaved a tale that both lovers of good fantasy and newcomers to this genre will thoroughly enjoy.</div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Gore and Scare everyone! It is now my pleasure to once again
review a film done by The Twisted Twins, Jen and Sylvia Soska. The film in
question is the remake of David Cronenberg masterpiece Rabid, a very
challenging thing to do.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Rabid tells the story of Rose (played
excellently by Laura Vandervoort) who is a meek introverted and rather plain
aspiring fashion designer who is working under the iron hand of fashion mogul
Gunter (played by Mackenzie Gray). Rose’s adopted sister and best friend
Chelsea (played by Hanneke Talbot) tries to help Rose get out of her shell by
getting her a date with fashion photographer Brad (played by Benjamin
Hollingsworth). While at the party Rose goes to the restroom to quell her
anxiety caused by being with Brad and being at the party. While sitting in a
bathroom stall she hears two shallow model twins (played perfectly by Jen and
Sylvia Soska) talking shit about her and laughing about how her sister had to talk
Brad into going out with her. This is enough for Rose. Upset she tries to leave
riding her scooter. She doesn’t watch where she’s going and gets hit by a car. After
she wakes in the hospital to find the lower part of her face disfigured and her
intestine damaged so she would never eat normally again. Luckily an
experimental surgeon who was obsessed with transhumanism offers Rose a chance
to be healed through a unique stem cell procedure. The result is that Rose’s
face and body are completely healed, though the doctor has her drinking special
nutrient drinks as part of her recovery. Unfortunately, for Rose she doesn’t
realize she is the carrier of a new strain of rabies that has a shorter
incubation period. Also, she finds she has strange dreams and a hunger for
blood. Oh, and not to mention the worm-like appendage with a needle-like point
that comes out through her mouth and armpit. Now the city is in danger of being
overcome with the new rabies plague and Rose is the cause.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Now comes the part you’ve been
waiting for…what I thought about this film. Well, first off obviously this film
is nowhere near the masterpiece that the original Rabid is. There just was no
way that Jen and Sylvia Soska could outdo Cronenberg. Cronenberg is a horror
master and he has far more education, skill, and pure artistic genius than The
Twisted Twins could ever muster. But I will say that as a remake and homage to
David Cronenberg’s work the Soskas film is not bad. I honestly have to say this the best film they’ve done in the horror genre. This film is solid. The
ladies' use of pace, shock, and gore value were matured, unlike their earlier
attempts. I was glad they stuck to classic practical makeup FX rather than CGI,
like they did in See No Evil 2. Also, as much as the red doctors' gowns and
gloves gave me a red light in the trailer, but when I saw it in the context of
the film itself it worked excellently and really pushed the fact that the
doctor was like a cultist. Also, the ending is royally Cronenberg and kind of
reminded me of The Brood.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Since I was first introduced to the
twins years ago, when they were promoting their film Dead Hooker in a Trunk, a
film I loved, I’ve been royally disappointed in the films they’ve done since. I
felt the films for the most point felt shallow and lacking the spark I saw in
Dead Hooker. With Rabid I see that the girls have matured as filmmakers and in
the case of this film took the time to really craft a film that shows the
potential I saw in those fresh film students I knew who were running around in
bars showing their first film. This was the work I was waiting to see come from
them. I hope they take these words to heart and continue to craft their film
rather than just throwing things out quick and not putting the love into the
work. That is the lesson you should get from David Cronenberg. He puts
everything into his art and never compromises. One little suggestion for Jen
and Sylvia…if you could please go back to your roots in a future project. Leave
the shallow world of social circles and give the fans a well-crafted grindhouse
horror film, like of like your own From Dusk Till Dawn. I’d like to see a bit
of grit and humor again. Congratulations on your achievement ladies.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">If I was to rate this film from a 1
to 5 rating I would give Rabid a hard 4.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Tate meets and has dinner with Villechaise. Villechaise, who
hasn’t done an interview in years, is surprised by how boring and standard Tate’s
interview is. Villechaise starts prodding Tate and offering “the real story”.
Tate tells him he has to leave because he has another interview, but
Villechaise is insistent and even resorts to calling Tate a “Junior” which
irritates the reporter. Tate leases frustrated and ends up being twenty minutes
late getting to his interview with Gore Vidal. Vidal is angry and refuses to do
the interview. In an attempt to try and salvage his trip Tate goes back to
Villechaise to hear the real story. The result is an evening of Villechaise
going from one crazy antic to another while telling Tate the story of how he
was rejected by his mother for being a dwarf through his time as an artist, and
on through becoming an actor and in the end destroying his own career over his
marriage to a money grubbing actress.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Actor Peter Dinklage is fantastic as Herv’e Villechaise.
Through Dinklage is quite a bit taller and looks nothing like the late
Villechaise, he still manages to capture the feel of this tragic celebrity.
Also, Jamie Dornan does a good job as reporter Danny Tate. But some serious
credit needs to be given to Andy Garcia for his performance as Richardo
Montalban.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Gore and scares everyone. Well, this time I’ve got a genre
busting film that is neither a drama, mystery, or horror film, but has aspects
of all. That film is 2013’s House of Thaddeus.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">House of Thaddeus tells the story of Tom and Claire. Tom is
a science teacher who believes in reason. Claire is a pianist who has a belief
in the spiritual. They’ve gotten a great deal on a four level house that was
once a bed and breakfast. The inside of the house is rather odd in the in every
room are these strange gold symbols with orbs with red crystals in them. The
man who sells them the house tells them they were made by the man who built the
house, who was a sort of cult leader named Thaddeus, so he could watch over the
house in death. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Soon after moving in Claire gets injured when a windows
slams down on her hand. Claire ends up with her hand in a cast and the doctor
informs her that there is a chance she will never play the piano again. Then to
make things worse one of Tom’s fellow teachers tells him that the house was
location of a brutal murder. After hearing about this Claire becomes obsessed
about learning more about Thaddeus and the murders. Tom is opposed about this.
Then people start showing up wanting to see the house because of the murders.
Tom keeps trying to kick them out while Claire welcomes them. Claire starts
putting on tours of the house while Tom is at work. This causes stress with
their marriage when he finds out. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">It is at this point that Claire meets a medium who tells her
that she needs to find the surviving daughter of the family who was murdered so
she can let her talk to her family and
close her wounds. Claire does this even though Tom is opposed. Claire finds the
daughter but Tom ruins the séance. After he tells her he wants a divorce.
Claire tells him she wants the house.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">This film is not for most horror fans because it doesn’t
have ghost FX, creepy lighting or music, nor does it even have a stormy night
scene. The ghosts in this film are simply presented as the history of the house
and how it affects the people living in it. This film is mostly about
differences in ideologies and beliefs and how these differences destroy the
main couple’s marriage. It is the writing and performances that propel this
film rather than special effects and camera tricks.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">So in the end I have to highly recommend this film if you
want to see something intriguing without any jump scares….<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Gore and Scares everybody! For my review this time I’ve got
the 2017 English art house horror film Ghost Stories.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Ghost Stories tells the story of
paranormal debunker Professor Goodman. Goodman one day gets a message from his
mentor, who he thought was dead, Professor Charles Cameron. Goodman travels across
England and finds his mentor living in a broken down trailer in the middle of
nowhere. Goodman asked Cameron why he went into seclusion and he tells him
because he had found that the paranormal was true and he was living in fear
because of it. Goodman asks him why he didn’t share his findings, but instead
of giving him a straight answer Cameron hands Goodman the files he had of his
last three cases. He tells Goodman to look into these three cases and that will
give him his answers. But as he leaves he sees Professor Cameron watching him
and behind him is a mysterious dark figure he can’t clearly see. So, Goodman takes up the challenge and
investigating these three chilling stories. But what Professor Goodman doesn’t
realize is this investigation is going to twist his ideas of reality.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">I have to say I loved this film.
First time filmmakers Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman (who also plays the part of skeptic
Goodman) show they know what they are doing. The story which was created by
Dyson and Nyman as a stage play is complex and full of twists and turns and
clues to the final plot twist that turns the story in a totally new direction.
The film work is incredible for a film that was shot on a shoe-string budget.
The locations where the stories take place are shot with extreme shadows that
make them that much more creepy. The ghost FX and makeup are top notch and not
over the top yet stunning and freak inducing. I have to say the last time a
movie ghost freaked me out like these did was the ghost in the Guillermo Del
Toro classic The Devil’s Backbone. But a great film can’t be great without
wonderful performances and this film has them with the standout performance
being Andy Nyman as Goodman, Martin Freeman (Sherlock, The Hobbit) as Mike
Pribble, and Alex Lawther as the frightened teenager Simon Rifkind.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">So, if you like a scary film that
keeps you guessing and is loaded with interesting characters then Ghost Stories
just might be the film for you. I know it was for me.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Gore and scares everybody! For my review this time I have
the latest film in the Hellraiser franchise, Hellraiser: Judgment.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"> Hellraiser:
Judgment tells the story of police detectives Sean Carter (Damon Carney), his
brother David Carter (Randy Wayne) , and Christine Egerton (Alexandra Harris).
They are on the trail to capture a serial killer who is called The Preceptor.
Unfortunately during the investigation Sean finds himself going through a new
portal to Hell and having his life auditor by the minion of hell known as The
Auditor. It seems Hell has found that the Lemarchant boxes are outmoded and are
now inviting the wicked to come to their hell house for judgment. But when the
Assessor and the judges are overwhelmed by Sean’s sins the Auditor must consult
with the hell priest Pinhead. It is then they are approached by an Angel from
Heaven who demands that Sean be released. The Auditor goes to check on Sean
only to find that he has escaped and has taken one of the Lemarchant boxes the
Auditor had on display. So, will Sean and his associates solve the mystery of
The Preceptor or will Sean fall for the trap that is The Lemarchant Box?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"> I have
to say that Hellraiser: Judgment was the most enjoyable Hellraiser outing I’ve
seen since the Hellraiser anthology, Hellraiser: Bloodline. Director Gary J
Tunnicliffe (who also plays The Auditor) weaves a wonderful twist filled tale
of brutality, judgment, and madness. He corrects the mistakes he made in his
last Hellraiser outing, Hellraiser: Revelations, and brought back the Cenobytes
as well as expanded the hell started by Clive Barker with a bunch of
interesting new minions of hell including The Auditor, The Assessor,The
Cleaners, The Judges, and The Surgeon. Also he brings us a new reimagined
Pinhead played by Paul T Taylor, who brilliantly takes over for Doug Bradley.
And Tunnicliffe further expands the Hellraiser world with the Angel Jophiel,
played by Helen Grace Donald. Also, Nightmare on Elm Street actress Heather
Langencamp makes an appearance as a creepy landlady.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-indent: .5in;">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The only bad part of this film is
that it was made on a small budget and you can tell. But this is still far
better than the last five films which is unfortunate for a once groundbreaking
horror franchise.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">For my review this time I have the fourth film in the
Hatchet franchise, though this time director/writer Adam Green has simply
titled it Victor Crowley after the film’s supernatural slasher.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">In this fourth edition of the franchise we are introduced to
Cloe (Katie Booth), her boyfriend Alex (Chase Williamson), and their friend
Rose. These three are trying to make a film on Victor Crowley and Cloe came up
with the idea to have Andrew Yong (played by Parry Shen), the survivor from the
last time Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) massacred people in the film and the
trailer they are planning to shoot to entice investors. They try to meet and
talk to Andrew at a book signing for his book I Survived but his agent Kathleen
(Felissa Rose) pulls him away when she gets a call about a big interview at the
scene of the massacre. So Cloe and her friends head to the swamp and meet up
with Dillon (played by Dave Sheridan), a swamp tour guide with aspirations of
being an actor. Cloe has Rose recite the magic spell that rose Victor Crowley
from the grave but Rose can’t pronounce it right. Cloe uses Rose’s phone and programs
videos of various people saying the spell from Youtube. Suddenly they hear a
loud plane crash. It is the plane Andrew Yong was in to get to his interview.
It ended up crashing right near the ruins of Victor Crowley’s house.
Unfortunately in their rush to check out the crash Rose drops the phone which
is still playing the spell being said. The spell brings Victor Crowley back and
Cloe, her friends, and the survivors of the crash must now this undead terror….<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">First of all, I can’t say I’m a fan of the Hatchet franchise
or Adam Green’s writing. I’ve seen all of them and I have to say this is the
weakest installment to the franchise. The acting was way over the top which
really messed with any attempt at tension that Green tried to create. Honesty,
the only performances that I found even slightly tolerable were Parry Shen as
Andrew and Tiffany Shepis as the camera girl Casey, even though she spent most
of her performance trapped and unable to move under some metal pieces waiting
to drown. The humor in this film, yes this is supposed to be a horror comedy,
was really crude and didn’t impress me at all. Finally, due I suspect to lack
of budget the gore FX looked horrid, like they were done by amateurs. Shoot,
the fake head of the girl in the opening scene where she gets her limbs hacked
off and then her head did not even look like the actress at all. It looked like
the majority of the makeup budget went to the Victor Crowley character makeup.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">So, I can honestly say that even if you are a fan of the
Hatchet franchise I doubt you’re going to really enjoy this outing but who
knows.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Gore and scares everyone. I know I just posted my top 10
favorite horror films of 2017, but just consider this film the eleventh,
because I would have definitely added this one to the list.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">Ghost House tells the story of American couple Jim (played
by James Landry He’bert) and his girlfriend Julie (played by Scout
Taylor-Compton) who are vacationing in Thailand. Upon arrival Jim and Julie
hire the polite chauffeur Gogo and his van at the airport. They sightsee
Bangkok and learn the legend of the ghost houses, miniature houses where
spirits peacefully live and do not haunt the living. Then Jim proposes Julie to
marry him with an engagement ring. They meet the British Robert and Billy in
the hotel lobby and are invited to celebrate their engagement with them. Robert
summons Jim to visit a fleshpots and Billy stays outside with Julie. When they
leave the spot, Julie has an argument with Jim that is drunken and accepts
Robert's invitation to visit ghost houses at the outskirts. Robert puts a piece
Julie's scarf about a doll's neck and then he flees with Billy leaving the
American couple in the middle of nowhere. Julie does not feel well and Jim
calls Gogo to find them and take Julie to a hospital. However, when Gogo sees
Julie, he takes her to a nearby village where his aunts live. Then they take
Julie to a monk that wears amulets about her wrist and Julie recovers. They
return to the hotel and when Julie removes her amulets, she has dreadful visions.
What has Robert done with Julie? Now Jim and Julie along with GoGo are being
pursued by the raging spirited of a betrayed woman who will stop at nothing to
drag Julie’s very soul to the spirit realm.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: large;">The one thing I really loved about this film is the fact
that it takes place in Thailand, a country rich in ghost lore. The whole ghost
house lore was definitely an interesting subject to explore. Also the ghost in
this film is plain scary and far more interesting that the ghosts in the films
The Ring or The Grudge. Also besides the character of Gogo there was the
amusing performance by actor Mark Boone Junior as the sort of underworld getter
of all things Reno. He was for this film what Lin Shaye is for Insidious.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

for 2017 and I highly recommend you find it on VOD, but more importantly on
DVD/ Blu-ray because this one is a keeper.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

to be a skin-walker, a vampire, and a demon. Meeting these monsters at a remote

invite the three subjects to share their haunting, personal experiences.
Working on the crew is a recovering drug addict who suffers withdrawal and paranoia.

<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Gore and scares everyone! For my review this time I’m going
once again into the intriguing sub-genre of found footage films with the first
film from filmmaker Faith R Johnson, The Faith Community.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">The Faith Community tells the tale of three young
documentary filmmakers who go to a supposed religious get away to film a
promotional video. When they get to the location they are greeted by The
Messenger (played by Jeremey Harris) and his “flock.” Soon the three filmmakers
find that things are not as they expected. For one thing on their way to the “getaway”
they are lead past a number of wooden crosses set to the side of the trail.
Then when they get to the getaway instead of finding cabins and facilities they
are met with a bunch of tents and folding chairs. When they question this The
Messenger simply tells them that they are living simple to get closer to God by
getting closer to nature. After that things get disturbing. The camera person,
Colin (played by Jeffrey Brabant), interviews The Messenger, but is unable to
get his name, the leader insists that The Messenger is his only name. Then
Colin interviews one of the members named Michael who turns out to be a former
soldier who was thrown out of the army for killing an officer because he was
having delusions of seeing a dark, demonic, shape. Then after having a meal
with the group Colin finds his associates acting odd. Are they drugged? Of
course it is after the after meal entertainment that things unfold and becomes
deadly. Their hosts are not a simple religious group, but a twisted cult whose
focus is to find those who are worthy. Will Colin and his friends escape this
cult or will they become its latest victims.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Though I’m not a huge fan of found footage films, there are
some that break the mold of the simple cookie cutter plots and stereotypical
faults of this sub-genre. I find this to be one. For one thing there wasn’t the
typical introduction expressing that this is actual footage found hidden in the
woods. Nope, Johnson forgets those trappings and lets the footage speak for
itself. Also, she adds to the fake realism by not even having the camera operator
keep the camera level. There are several shots that are of people’s feet and
several shot where the camera is trying to auto adjust and all we see is flared
and barely intelligible images. Also, there is no attempt at making this film
over dramatic or Hollywoodish. This film is as rough as it gets and does look
like someone with little camera skills was shooting true events. The
unfortunate drawback to this is the film loses a lot of its impact by being too
far away from the main action, much like a person at a concert trying to film
the action with their camera phone.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="color: red; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">So, in the end I found The Faith Community a disturbing look
at the very real horror of the extreme religious cults that have popped up in
the world. This film is a cautionary tale that warns you to look closer into
any religious retreats, because they might not be what you expect….<o:p></o:p></span></div>
