Review: The Windigo (2024)

The Windigo (2024)

By William Pattison

For Horror Bob’s Blog

The Windego is a story about an ancient Chippewa demon, the WINDIGO, that is resurrected by a Native American teenager and his grandmother to protect their family after a run-in with back-woods meth dealers. They soon discover that the creature's lust for killing cannot be controlled. As each killing bonds the teen and the Windigo ever closer, the family must find a way to break the curse before all of them become the blood-thirsty creature's next victims.

I was very excited when I found this film. Unfortunately, that excitement died a horrible death. I was looking for a film about The Windego, yes they even got the name of the creature wrong, not a low grade Pumpkin head ripoff. To make it that much torturous is both the writing and character performances were mind numbingly horrible. Brian Krause is both wasted and pretty much sleeps through his role as the sheriff whose only purpose in the story is to play the stereotype dissed and idiotic cop. The brother in the story, who calls on the Windigo, comes off as a spoiled, morose, city kid that comes to the country and hates everything that leads him into getting his ass kicked and nearly getting thrown in a well. His soft spoken sister has to save his wimp ass.

Anyway, his grandma, who is waiting for death, introduces him to the legend and even helps him to curse himself. Shit, the curse is exactly like Pumpkinhead right down to the kid seeing the killings through the demon’s eyes. They mess up the lor horribly and  mix it with smatterings of the skin walkers as well. The whole thing is a mess and was a slog for me to get through. Seriously, the film is 90 minutes and it felt never ending to me. I was so happy to see the end credits which was the best part of it.

So, all I can say if you are a Pumpkinhead fanatic… fuck, even one of those wouldn’t like this crap, and are looking for an experience that will burn your retinas check it out. For me I just want to hug my horror host skull, John, cover my head with a pillow suffocate myself until I can’t  remember this piece of shit…Movie!!!Ahhhhh!!!
